Finding Treasures

While working in my garden this morning I found something. Something that had been lost for about four years. Although, come to think of it, I’m always finding things out there. I call them little treasures. But today’s treasure was different and really special. Four years ago my husband lost his ring in my garden, and I found it today!

Wondering why there is a pic of his ring and my drink together? Well, without that little active drink I would not have had the energy to really do much in my garden. So I guess, technically, I’m thankful for more than just finding his ring!

Have a wonderful day!

Caffeinated and ready!

This week will be our first full week of school! Our youngest is a senior, and our oldest grand baby will be in preschool. I’m still trying to figure out how I feel about that…

Since this will also be my first week without kids at home during the day I may actually get caught up on some housework! WOOHOO!

Have a great week!

Hello!

I took a small break, but now I’m back! It’s also back to school time for a lot of us. Which means crazy, hectic, and sometimes chaotic moments and days. Remember to take your vitamins and try to relax just a few minutes each day. Make a list of things you need to get done. Write yourself notes if you have to. Plan your menu for the week ahead if you can. Get on Pinterest and get some simple dinner ideas. Use those crockpots!

I try to get school supplies online as much as possible too, so I don’t have to mess with the crazy crowd of people running thru Walmart. Order the essentials for them and get thru the first few days. Chances are they won’t need all 12 packages of copy paper that first day of school! Imagine that! Try not to stress out. Been there, done that, it’s not fun.

Also, try and remember to enjoy these days as much as possible, our babies grow up fast! So get your coffee in you, get your lists going, and tackle these next few days! Oh! And have some ice cream later with your kiddos. Watch them smile and listen to them talk and laugh.

Early morning thoughts with my coffee

Some choices in life are scary

  • moving away from home
  • buying a house
  • helping clean the teenagers’ bathroom

Some you will regret

  • not checking expiration date on milk you just drank
  • helping clean the teenagers’ bathroom

Others will leave a scar

  • helping clean the teenagers’ bathroom

Ugh…. I need more coffee, and possibly a shot.

Weeds and Flowers

While looking at my garden I realize how much it and my life are a lot alike. Both weedy and out of control.

At this moment in my life I find myself being mom and grandma (nanny) at the same time. We have three kids (four really, wish we could see him more). One grown, one in college, and one a senior in high school. We also have two grandchildren that stay with me most days and some nights depending on schedules. So some days can be quite overwhelming with all the things that need cleaned up, pulled up, sprayed, and replanted.

But if I stop focusing on my weedy, out of control garden, and look out just a little, I see my flowers growing under a row of bird houses and they are starting to bloom. Plus when the wind is blowing I get a big refreshing smell of the mint I have growing nearby.

My kids and grandkids are like those flowers, and my life like that mint. I love watching them all grow and bloom. Each phase, and each accomplishment in their lives is beautiful and refreshing, sometimes emotionally overwhelming too.

I see all of this as good, because no matter how weedy and out of control my garden and my life are right now, there is beauty in the things growing around me and I would not change any of it.

Quiet coffee filled mornings — I need them.

Most of the time this works for me, maybe it will for you..

  1. Get up before everyone else.
  2. Have your coffee (or tea) while your house is quiet.
  3. Enjoy this quiet moment.
  4. Think about what you would like to accomplish today.
  5. Make a to do list for just today.

Now get up and go tackle your day! If you mark at least one thing off your list today then celebrate! YAY! Have a cookie! If not, that’s ok too. Just try again tomorrow. Every day is a new beginning and sometimes momma/nanny life is crazy.

Banana bread and coffee. Yum!

Making banana bread is on my list to do today. So is laundry, but I enjoy banana bread more so laundry may wait until tomorrow.

My sister gave me this recipe years ago and I really do not know where she got it but we love it! Hope you enjoy it.

3 cups sugar

1 cup oil

4 eggs

2 tsp vanilla

1 1/2 cups buttermilk

2 tsp soda

4 cups flour

3 mashed bananas

1 cup nuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 350*. Grease and flour (we sugar) 3 loaf pans and set aside. Cream sugar and oil together then add eggs one at a time. Now add everything else until well blended. Pour into loaf pans and bake for one hour or until knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. Let them cool and enjoy!
